Monocle

FAQ

Common questions about gameplay, purchases, multiplayer, and privacy.

Gameplay

What kind of game is Monocle?

Monocle is a team-based guessing game played in person. Teams take turns giving clues and guessing words on cards. The rules layer in different lenses (ways you're allowed—or not allowed—to clue) so each round feels fresh.

Do I need internet to play?

No for core pass-and-play on a single device. Some optional features (cloud sync, AI deck generation, certain store flows) need a network connection when you use them.

What are “modifiers”?

Modifiers are optional rule twists that can run during a round (for example movement or timing challenges). You can turn many of them on or off in Settings.

What is Gregory?

Gregory is the game's host persona—voice and scripting that guide tutorials and add character to the experience. Gregory is not a person you chat with; it's authored game content.

Decks and AI

Can I make my own decks?

Yes. Monocle supports custom deck ideas, including optional AI-assisted generation. AI output is for entertainment; it can be wrong, repetitive, or unsuitable for your group—use judgment, especially around kids or sensitive topics.

Who processes AI prompts?

Prompts you submit for deck generation may be processed by OpenAI (and related services we describe in our privacy policy). Safety and content policies from those providers may limit or block some requests.

Purchases

How do purchases work?

Monocle uses Apple's in-app purchase system for eligible products (such as expansions or credit packs). Purchases are tied to your Apple IDper Apple's rules.

I restored purchases and something's missing—what should I do?

Use Restorein the app (where provided), confirm you're signed into the correct Apple ID, then contact support with your app version and a short description. See Monocle support.

Multiplayer

How do I play with friends on multiple phones?

When available, Monocle can use local network connectivity so nearby devices can join the same session. Exact steps appear in the app's lobby or setup flows. This mode is meant for local play, not internet matchmaking.

Privacy and account

Where is your privacy policy?

Monocle privacy policy

Can I delete my cloud data?

When the app offers it, you can start account or cloud data deletion from Settings (see the privacy policy for the current wording and steps). Local-only data on your device may need separate steps (for example removing app data via iOS Settings).

Accessibility

Does Monocle support VoiceOver or larger text?

Monocle is built with accessibility in mind, including VoiceOver labels and support for Dynamic Type where possible. If something is hard to use with assistive features, please tell us via Monocle support so we can improve it.
